Top of the line - made for daily use year round!
By Steinhagen, Jens P.
I was very hesitant to spend this much money on riding gear. What made the decision in the end were a couple of factors:The level of protection in this jacket and the matching pants - the entire back is covered by a huge thick protector, elbow protector cover entire lower arm and the knee protectors include the shin, it has big shoulder protectors as well as hip protectors. The Tourshell comes in regular and long sizes. I ended up with a 102 which is a 52 with longer sleeves and legs - same size I wear in European suits. Perfect snug fit!Nothing else I tried had this level of protection in a touring outfit, and nothing could even come close to the fit.Having used my Tourshell combo now from last summer through the winter until now (April 2013), I have been cozy and bone dry on my 30 mile commute from 27 to 80 degrees including days here in the PNW where it rained like your standing in the shower. Not a single drop got through. Breathable membrane and large vents in front and back make summer days in stop and go traffic bearable. The liner is perfectly warm to below freezing at freeway speeds. No need for heated gear in the temps that I'll be experiencing. Instead of trying to find a waterproof and warm glove with racing level protection (i.e. non-existant) I opted for Alpinestars Drystar and added $20 snowmobile muffs to the handlebars. Dry gloves and heated grips haven't been on high since. I skipped 2 or 3 days on which I had to take the 'cage' to work. Other than that the Tourshell lets me ignore the weather forecast entirely - I simply don't care. Combined with my Schuberth C3 with Sena bluetooth and BMW Sportdry Goretex boots my commute is as comfy and entertaining as in the 'cage'.... just way more fun and quicker in the HOV lanes. It is holding up great so far, only the jacket zipper tab broke off but was easily replaced with a loop of line.I am mostly commuting on my R1100RT, but have been on the Aprilia Mille now for a couple of weeks and the Tourshell works perfect on a sport bike as well due to the great fit.If you're looking for a serious suit that lets you ride every day year round the Tourshell is what you need and is well worth the buckaroos.
